On Gratitude

“It is said that the ancient Samurai  before they went to bed each night would pray for a fire to come each night to burn all their worldly possessions. The reason for this prayer was so when they would awake each morning they would be able to give thanks and gratitudes to their god for letting them keep all their worldly possessions for one more day”

Can you imagine saying this prayer every night with full conviction and pure honesty within your heart and soul? The ancient Samurai lived a very minimalist lifestyle. Although their possessions were very few, each of their possessions had extreme meaning to each of them. So to say a prayer that requires you to have a totally selfless mindset so you can have purposeful gratitude each and every morning that you awake is amazing. It takes a true belief and faith in your purpose for being here on this earth to allow yourself to live life with this mindset. Although this mindset is very difficult to achieve and takes years of dedication and practice, it is a mindset that we could all use. It is a mindset that would allow this world we live in to be a much better place for all. Too often we place so much value on what we don't have and what we think we need to get, that we forget to look all around us and see the abundance of what we already have in our lives to be grateful for.
