Running towards suffering

This morning one of my gratitude's I wrote in my journal read "knowing my body and mind want to work hard". Yesterday I went on what was probably one of my hardest runs I have done recently. The mileage was not an overwhelming distance, only a little over 8 miles. The terrain on the other hand was quite difficult and very challenging. The conditions of the trail (extremely muddy) helped to add to the difficulties that I was experiencing.

What struck me most about this run was while my body and mind where suffering through the fatigue of climbing hills and the concentration needed for foot placement. both my body and mind where willingly enjoying this form of suffering. It dawned on me that because all of my training and staying disciplined to my training even on days like this. I had finally got myself to the point of really appreciating the suffering I was putting myself through. I ran with a smile on my face even though my legs, lungs and heart where saying $@#% you. It was awesome.

When we can reach this point in our lives, where we embrace the suffering and run towards it instead of away from it we start to find the real true growth we have been searching for. We embrace the suffering because we now understand that the work we are willing to put in will lead us to are true potential. We start to become the person we have always wanted to grow into. We start to willingly DO THE WORK needed no matter how we feel, because we now understand and comprehend the importance of who we really have always wanted to become.
